super-soft

slippers

Fine, gauzy, brushed mohair is used to create an adorable little pair of heirloom baby slippers in softest pink.

Mohair is a beautiful yarn to use for babies’ items. The lightness and softness of mohair fabric means that it won’t irritate a baby’s skin. The gorgeous, delicate colours the yarn comes in makes it perfect for special garments that you will want to keep as mementos and heirlooms long after your little one has grown out of them.

The slippers shown here feature a feminine little ruffle. The addition of the simple frill turns the pair of feather-soft creamy shoes into little clouds – well, I think most babies are angels. However, I have provided a basic pattern, without the frill. You can then work variations on the basic pattern to produce a whole shoe shop’s worth of different colours and textures. I have offered ideas for four other versions (see pages 58–59). The pom poms and animal faces make fun additions on little shoes that are perfect for a baby boy or girl. Little pink shoes with roses are just for girls, while the version with the star is just right for the little star in your life. I’ve used two strands of fine-weight (4ply) mohair, but the same pattern can be used using a single strand of heavier-weight yarn.
